By no means can I even attempt the glory that is Sara’s review, but here is my humble opinion concerning the Twilight movie. Be warned, I have been up for almost twenty-four hours, and am running on pure adrenline. I assume it is much the same for my fellow Twilight fans who either went to work or school all day, and camped out at the movie theater to catch a midnight showing of Twilight. So bear with me. Also, I can’t promise spoiler free, so don’t read below if you don’t want to know…. (wow, I rhymed at three in the morning)

It is easiest for me at this point to break it into conversation points:
1) The speacial effects: I have read many a review (both fan created and profressional) that have stated that they were disappointed with the special effects. I am not one of those fans. I thought the wire work was amazing. Maybe it is because I feel CGI is overused in Hollywood these days, and as a frequent movie goer, I am quite sick of it. The fight scene while too short, was amazing. In fact, my sister’s favorite part (a non-Twilight reader) was when Bella and Edward went tree-hopping. The baseball scene was so much fun to view. I really love Hardwicke’s style of filming. The only issue I had was when any of the vampires ran, that did look cheesy. But that was such a small part of the film.
2) The pacing: My fiancee, someone who had to put up with me gushing about Twilight for the past nine months, mentioned he thought they rushed through some things. He has not read the series, and I can understand how someone who is not familar with the novel could feel like that. Overall, I think as a book to movie adaptation, it was a pretty solid representation. Sure, I would of liked to have seen the blood typing scene or a better attempt at a meadow scene, but often other scenes made up for it. (cue- my three favorite scenes in the movie – the reveal in the forest, the kiss, and the scene in the hospital).
3) The acting – I am sure I will get stoned for this, but I am going to say it anyways. Kristen Stewart out did Pattinson. Not that he wasn’t good, he was great. But I was floored by her performance. It just all seemed to be so real with her. I am by no means putting down Pattinson’s performance, but so often over the past few months it has been all about Pattinson, and I feel Stewart deserves some praise. She carried this movie, and that scene in the hospital at the end leaves me praying that they will make New Moon. This girl is going places. The “humans” also stood out for me as hilarious and enjoyable to watch. As for the cullens, Carlisle, Emmett, and Rosalie each made an effort to stand out, while I felt that Alice, Jasper, and Esme sort of faded to the backround. Oh and how awesome is Charlie?
Ugh, I have so much to say. I don’t want to shove too many of my views down your throat, because you need to experience the film for yourself. My experience watching the film was quite unique as I went with two people who had never read the books. I am thrilled they both enjoyed it so much. My fiancee’s favorite part was when Bella met the Cullens, and my sister is now planning on reading the novels. Overall, I think it is a quality movie and one I will be seeing again. I really, really, liked it. If I had to grade it: A-. Why? Because I wanted to see more of the Cullens’ and their relationships, and I wasn’t particularly happy with the placement of the music. Otherwise, get ready Twilight fans you are in for a great ride.
I will most likely write a more in-depth review later this weekend, but I hoped you enjoyed my late night ramblings.

Oh, I’m so glad you loved it, too!
Some of my friends so-far have not been as happy about it as me, and I was starting to wonder if I was the only one who would really enjoy it.
Though, I must say I disagree with you about Jasper fading into the background. (Yes, Esme faded — though to be fair, they really didn’t give her much to do. I think Alice has the potential to shine — I can definitely see her in some crucial scenes in New Moon & Eclipse). But I thought Jasper, in particular, had a very major presence. There were many tiny little scenes when he said or did very little, but he gave these little stares or looks that I thought spoke volumes. (Ex. a brief shot of the Cullens after Edward saves Bella from the van; when he follows Alice & Edward onto the bus after the fieldtrip. And of course, that first glimpse in the cafeteria. Classic!) I also enjoyed his interractions with Alice in the hotel when she has her vision. I am bummed we didn’t get to see his “calming powers” in action, though I understand why it didn’t make the cut.
I have to agree, your three favorite scenes are among my favorites. I also love the little moment when Bella curls up on Edward’s chest while she’s sleeping. His entire reaction — body language, facial expressions — is priceless. And I really, really loved the little extra at the ending.
I also loved the Edward-Jacob glaring at the prom (and the “wolves move in” line) and the scene when Bella brings Edward home to meet Charlie. (“Bring ‘im in!”)
I agree with you about the hospital scene — you can see New Moon in the makings there.
Alright, I too have been up waaay too long (about 28 hours, with a 3.5 hour nap in the middle) and should now get some shut-eye!
I actually just stumbled across your site about a week ago, when one of my favorite bloggers in my Google Reader mentioned your blog.
I read the previous review of the movie and I loved every word of it.
Kudos to you for having your own opinion and being honest about some of the moments that you did or did not like from the movie. I LOVED that you gave such high views of Kristen Stewart. Although I’m a huge fan of Rob Pattinson, I feel that poor Kristen has been brushed under the rug during the promo for Twilight. I mean, seriously, she’s BELLA! The entire story (in the novels) is from her perspective. Edward will always be *sigh* perfect and dreamy and someone that no human man could ever relate to, but Bella is that clumsy, adolescent girl we can relate to, you know?
I’m actually going to see the movie tonight at 9:30, and every review I read makes me want to see Twilight that much sooner!
Love the site, ESPECIALLY the backgrounds! I’ve copied a few and am currently sporting one (prom scene, yay!) on my work computer. You guys are awesome, keep up the great work!
This 28 year old is a huge fan!! I became a Twilighter about 4 weeks ago and all who i know are now fans as well. Some might not be as obsessed as I am, but my husband is a fan now too! I saw it at midnight and it was fantastic, I agree w/ the reviews almost entirely. I think the chemistry between Kristin and Rob is electric, i cannot think of a movie that has shown this in years…….. maybe ever! They both did tremendous!! Kristin definitely shows amazing promise for the future books, as she is supposed too! Rob was breath taking, yes I am a fan for all the reasons! However he was truly Edward! I cannot criticize any part of them! I am going to see it two more times this weekend. If the holidays were not fast approaching…. I would go many more. Instead I must wait for the DVD release. I think the rest of the cast was excellent as well! I am so excited to get to know them more in the future movies! To stop gloating and say a few negative things I will……(spoilers). I felt that we were cheated out of 15 more mins. at least of the movie…….. maybe the deleted scenes were them. I feel we should have had some more scenes of Bella and Edward esp., in her room! There could never be to much Bella and Edward! The only thing that I feel should have been in the movie that was not, was the reference to the title….. How could that not be in there? I find myself constantly looking up at the Twilight sky all the time. My favorite parts were all, but esp. the kiss and Edward during the bite scene!!!!! The music was used wonderfully through out, I actually guessed a couple of places the songs would be at correctly! Rob’s songs were in the perfect places! Hats off to the cast and crew, job well done!!! I am looking forward to the next three movies! For now I have to survive on re-reading the books again and again!
I totally agree with you on the wires vs cgi! CGI is used way too much and it was nice to see rob leaping through the air instead of some goofed up cartoonish version of him! I hope that they don’t use too much CGI in the future, movies as it seems that they will happen; and will probably have much bigger budgets too!
Charlie sucked. And Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart both did awesome!!
