Hello fellow Twilighters. As I write this, I have just gotten home from the advanced screening of Twilight here in Portland, Oregon. And I can say this. Loved it. I honestly loved it.
It was by no means perfect – and not every Twilight fan will love it as much as I did. But I went in with a lot of expectations and I was not disappointed.
Now, in a few more words, I shall attempt to give you my review of the movie. This is not a typical movie review; it shall not examine the movie as a traditional movie critic would. I’m not a movie critic; I’m a movie viewer. And I’m a Twilight fan. So consider this your Twilight review – written by a Twilighter, for Twilighters.
I can’t promise a spoiler-free ride, so if you are worried don’t keep reading. If you don’t mind a few spoilers (I promise, I won’t give too much away!) keep reading after the jump. (Really, very minor spoilers — nothing serious, I promise!!)
Like I said, I loved the movie. I know a lot of people were worried about its faithfulness to the novel, and I can say without a doubt that the movie is 100% faithful to the novel.
Now, that doesn’t mean it is exactly the same. It’s not; there are a lot of differences. But the basic story – the basic events – are true to the novel; it is true to the spirit of the novel, much in the same way the Harry Potter movies are all faithful adaptations, even if they diverge from the books.
Some of the movie’s lines are even plucked word-for-word from the novel – even that most famous line (however cheesy), “And so the lion fell in love with the lamb.” I know originally the moviemakers wanted to remove the line, or rewrite it to be less cheesy – but Stephenie Meyer insisted it remain the same. I’m glad she did. The young actors are talented enough that they managed to deliver the line (and the subsequent “stupid lamb,” “sick masochistic lion” remarks) without sounding like total hams. It actually worked.
The movie uses a lot more voice over than I traditionally like in a movie, but I found it actually provided the film with that same intimate quality you get from reading the book. In a lot of ways, it reminded me of another standout performance from Kristen Stewart – that of her role in Speak. The voice over also helped move the story along and even provided us more famous lines from the book (I’ll let you see which ones made the cut).
I’m not sure what to say about the pacing of the movie. I thought it moved pretty well – even moving quickly at some times – but my friend, who also saw the movie with me, thought it felt slow. So I guess it’s a matter of personal opinion. As for me, I thought it moved quite well. The progression in Edward and Bella’s relationship does happen somewhat quickly, but that’s to be expected because of the time constraints in making a two-hour movie. The filmmakers didn’t have hundreds of pages to build that tension and romance. All things considered, I thought it worked pretty brilliantly. The filmmakers even managed to weave the most important dialogue and conversations between our two heroes into fewer, more exciting scenes. (After all, the movie would be pretty boring if Edward and Bella just kept talking as they drove to and from school. I love those scenes in the book, but even I can admit it would be pretty boring in a movie.)
As for the acting … well, I don’t think they could have picked a better cast. Kristen Stewart plays a very reserved, awkward Bella – socially uncomfortable, a bit of a loner, and yet very level-headed and very determined. Not everyone is going to love her performance. One of my friends who saw the movie with me commented that she thought Bella was “blah.” I didn’t feel that way, but others may. I thought Stewart did an excellent job of portraying Bella, how I perceived her in the books.
Likewise, Robert Pattinson is Edward Cullen. Now, I was always a Pattinson fan. I loved him in Harry Potter and I was instantly thrilled about his casting as Edward. He did not disappoint me. If anything, I was even more impressed after seeing the movie. The agony he portrays is utterly heartbreaking. And yes, he is dazzling – both figuratively and literally. I won’t give away too much – but I can tell you that the sparkle effect they used for his skin in the sunlight is amazing. It was fantastic. It was beautiful and subtle, without being garish. I know they worked very hard to get just the right effect, and it totally paid off. I kind of felt like Bella that first time she saw Edward in the sun … I was equally mesmerized and dazzled.
One of my favorite scenes is that first day in Biology. Pattinson’s portrayal of Edward’s horror and bloodlust is a standout. I don’t want to give it all away — but I can tell you it was a pretty awesome scene.
Another standout from the movie is Billy Burke as Charlie Swan. Now, it’s no secret that I’ve got a huge soft spot for Charlie as a character. I don’t know what it is, but he’s one of my favorite characters in the books and I absolutely adore him. My love for Charlie has only grown after seeing the movie. Burke’s portrayal is both amusing and heartbreaking. One of the most emotional scenes in the movie is when Bella tells him that she doesn’t want to get stuck in Forks like her mom. You could hear a collective “Awww” of sympathy in the audience at that moment. I wanted to cry for Charlie. He is the lonely ex-husband, the loving yet awkward father and also the police chief, whose job it is to look after his daughter and his neighbors. And Burke plays it brilliantly.
And of course, the Cullens. I only wish we got to see more of them. Due to the constraints of turning a 500+ page book into a two-hour movie, we lose some of the smaller side stories and back stories. Yes, we do see a little of the Cullens’ history. But not much. And we don’t get to spend a lot of time with them in the present. But all of the actors in the Cullen clan were superb. Even in the scenes when they had no lines – when they were silent bystanders – they had a major presence. One of my favorite moments is in the Forks High School parking lot, just after Edward has saved Bella from Tyler’s minivan, we see a close-up of the Cullen siblings. It was chilling, to say the least. In a small, quick shot, we get a very vast understanding of how much Edward has angered his family and how much he has risked by saving Bella’s life. It’s very much akin to the argument Edward has with his family in those chapters from Midnight Sun.
The bad vamps are equally delicious. I’m so glad they were given more scenes in the movie – given a chance to establish themselves as wicked and wonderful before they arrive in the baseball clearing. Honestly, I hope Summit greenlights a New Moon movie just so I can see more of Rachelle LeFevre in action as Victoria.
And speaking of baseball … let me just say this, I will never look at a regular baseball game the same way again. I realize this baseball scene was fabricated – done with stunts and special effects. But the overall look and feel was exhilarating. I only wish it had lasted longer.
I should also mention briefly that Taylor Lautner was surprisingly good as Jacob Black. Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I am proudly, 100% on Team Edward. But from the beginning, I was not happy about the casting of Lautner. I just didn’t see it, and every interview I saw with him just irked me. Perhaps its his youthful enthusiasm, or his overuse of the word “like” … but whatever it was, I just couldn’t see him as Jacob. However, I stand corrected. He not only pulled it off, but I’ll go so far to say that he actually did a really good job in the part. His scenes with Stewart as Bella felt very much like the Jacob-Bella interraction I remember from the books. Together, they gave off that very “easy friendship” vibe — though you could still see that Jacob is crushing on Bells.
And lets give some love to the humans at Forks High School. Mr. Molina — the movie version of their biology teacher — has only a few brief moments, but they are memorable. Anna Kendrick as Jessica Stanley is pure genius. You both love her and want to slap her at the same time. Christan Seratos’ portrayal of Angela is also endearing, so much so that I can picture her in my head when I reread the scene from Eclipse when Bella helps Angela address graduation invites. And the boys, well, they are all clearly smitten by Stewart’s Bella. Of Tyler, Eric and Mike — my favorite was Michael Welch as Mike Newton. He had that quasi-popular, nerdy-yet-cool attitude down pat. He was actually rather adorable, in a non-supernatural hunk kind of way.
The music was also exquisitely woven into the movie. I myself had my doubts about how some of the tracks on the soundtrack would work into the film, but those doubts are gone. (Most notably, I was uncertain how Muse’s “Supermassive Black Hole” would work into the film. I’m a huge Muse fan, and I love that song, but I just couldn’t see it in the Twilight context. But I’ve seen it in use and I am sold.) I’m also now in love with Carter Burwell’s version of “Bella’s Lullaby” – which appears throughout the movie in various forms as a sort of “love theme” for Bella and Edward. It helps connect their romance throughout the film, and brings it all together. Like many, I wasn’t sure I liked it when I first heard it. Not so any more. I even listened to it in my car on the way home from the movie and found I actually kind of loved hearing it.
Oh, and the movie’s ending? Satisfying, yet it just leaves you longing for more. I will leave it at that.
Overall, I would give this movie a 95% satisfaction rating. Some of the special effects seemed a wee bit cheesy; the pacing wasn’t perfect. But overall, I think they nailed it. And I for one, will have no problem going to see Twilight again Thursday night … or Friday afternoon … or over and over again on DVD, with all those deleted scenes we’ve been promised.
On a final note, here’s my advice to Twilight fans headed to see the movie for the first time:
Remember it’s an adaptation of the book. It’s not going to be exactly the same, page for page. Not every scene will happen the same way it does in the book. Things are changed and adjusted to fit in a cinematic scope. But the movie is true to the story and the heart of the book.
If you go in with that in mind and a good attitude, you should hopefully enjoy the movie just as much as I did.

so excited! great review, I really enjoyed reading it!
Thanks! I hope it wasn’t too spoiler-y … I was trying to keep it as spoiler-free as possible. I could have gone on and on about some scenes … I’m sure we’ll have an e-mail exchange once you’ve seen the movie!
well…i sort of have a copy of the script…and have had one for awhile, so I am prepared for the slight changes, just anxious to see it move from page to screen. your review makes me feel a little better about it!I am sure you will have a e-mail from me in the wee hours of Friday morning!
Geez, you’ve been holding out! How’d you manage that? Luh-ky!!
Well, I’m looking forward to your wee-Friday-morning-hours e-mail …
oh man! that was great! really, I loved reading every single line
(plus I was kind of pissed at some swedish reviewer that kept going on about how much the movie sucked..) so I’m thrilled that YOU, as a true twilight fan, loved it!!!
again, thank you
(and I do think you could have pun in some more spoiler
) haha
Thanks very much for the review! I truly enjoyed reading it. It’s nicely written, indeed.
I’ve actually got a few questions about Jasper and Alice because they are one of my absolute favorite pairings in the book. Were there some alone or intense scenes for them in the movie? Any physical displays of affection, perhaps a kiss or a hug or something like that? I gather from the other reviews that we do not get to see much of Jasper and Alice in the film. And I’ve heard someone say that Jasper only has about two lines in the whole film.
Also, how are Jackson and Ashley as Jasper and Alice in the film? Do the actors do a good job in portraying these characters? And how is their on screen chemistry?
Basically, any other details you can give me on Jasper/Alice and Jackson/Ashley would be amazing. I’m a huge Jasper/Alice fan.
Honestly, I’m so excited I can barely keep myself from squealing like a little kid. And your review just made even more anxious to see the movie. I’ve read like 80% of the script (I don’t want to know how it ends) and I know it’s not exactly like the book but the Twilight essence seems to be there. I still have to wait til Dec. 19th to see it on the big screen here in Brazil and I can say without a doubt that I’ll go watch it more than just once and over and over once it’s out on DVD. But I just can’t wait another MONTH to see it so I’m searching for it online nonstop and am determined to find it. If I have to wait another month I think I might explode from antecipation.
Thank you so much for the amazing review. I really needed someone to reassure me that this is not going to suck majorly. I feel like I have my expectations so so high that I’m bound to be disappointed for sure. I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a movie since the first Harry Potter came out. I’m seriously counting the seconds.
Thanks for the review!
I just have a question about Bella’s lullaby. When I heard the lullaby on the soundtrack, they added extra instruments with it with the piano. In the movie, were those instruments included while Edward’s playing, or are they just for the soundtrack and piano only in the film?
Thanks for the review. It was great. I have high expectations. I started becoming a little worrried the other night when my husband says, what are you going to do if the movie isn’t that great? I freaked out thinking, I don’t know!
I like when “regular” movie goers review movies, sometimes the critics just don’t know what their talking about.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I can’t make it to the midnight screening and must wait until Friday. I’m very jealous of you. I was skeptical about how they would adapt the book into a movie but you’ve rested my nerves, so to speak. I eagerly await to see it myself! Again, thank you for sharing your insight.
THANK YOU for writing this and sharing it with us Twilighters. I am thrilled that you gave it a 95% satisfaction rating. I CAN’T WAIT for Friday night!!! Yay!
Hello!
What an ace review, I really enjoyed reading it, thank you so much. My friend Claire and I are so looking forward to finally seeing ‘Twilight’, its not released in the UK until the 19th December (two days before I turn 35 ~ just putting that out there for all of us older Twilighters!)
As I said, ace review, I am glad you enjoyed the movie!
Take care, Paula
Thank you so much for posting your review:) I have one question, how many kiss scenes are there between Bella and Edward? If it’s spoilerish you can email me at imbettingonalice16@yahoo.com Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this review, i love it! I found it really insightful yet u didnt give too much away (like another review i happened to read this morning) so thankyou! I seriously cannot wait, im going to the midnight screening tomorrow night and my heart is already jumping out of my chest lol I am fully aware that it is just an adaptation, thats fine with me, anything Twilight will be amazing! Can’t wait to see Rob’s portrayal of Edward, ive heard from many sources that its just breathtaking! Thanks again for the awesome review!
Thank you for reviewing the movie for all of us eager Twilight fans. I myself have a ticket for Saturday with some friends, and am totally jazzed about seeing this film.
Your comments reminded me about how people were feeling in regard to the “Prisoner of Azkaban”. I think that of the Harry Potter films, it deviated the most from the book. Knowing that, I was a little nervous when I saw it for the first time in the theater, because PoA is my favorite in the whole series. But when I saw it… it was like the story was familiar, and yet all new at the same time. That movie is now one of my personal faves ever.
I think that whatever changes have been made to “Twilight” are there because it is a film and not a book. I plan to just sit back and enjoy myself – because what I’ve seen so far has me convinced that I will not be disappointed.
Where the special effects really that bad?
When i saw the “flying” when he jumped out of the window in the 8 minute Rome scene i was shocked at how bad that looked. It was the worst special effect i’ve ever seen in any movie, i’m sorry but it really was.
Is it better in the completed movie? Or was it still crap as before?
Did it sort of ruin the movie for you? I think those lame effects will probably ruin the movie for me…
Also, how many lines to the Jasper, Emmet and Alice actually have.
I heard Jasper only has 2 lines, please tell me thats not true!
I really could not handle Mike Newton having more lines that Jazz.
Jazz is one of my fave characters!
Are there any “couple” moments between them. Do we actually get to find out that they are MARRIED and not just adoptive brothers and sisters.
What are the flashbacks like? Are they good or just too short?
Is there dialogue in the flashbacks or is just a voice-over?
I’m dying to know what Carlisle would say before he bites Edward and Esme. Please tell me he said something!?
Could you email me asap on babes412@gmail.com
THANKS!
XXX
Awesome job on the review!
Can’t wait to see the movie, especially Rob’s sparkling. I seriously can’t picture that at all! But now I’m extremely excited!
[...] Check out the review here! [...]
Thank You so much for writting this, it has helped me a lot, to know that a big fan actually loves it as much as i hope to.
Im going to the first show, the midnight one. And im sure im not going to be able to even try to sleep when I get home because im going to be so exicted and happy =]. I do plan on going in with a open mind, and im sure im going to just love the movie.
Thanks again! You did us all a big favor.
I’m excited to see it. I’m expecting cheesy action scenes. those tree jumping scenes from the trailors are almost embarrassingly cheesy. But what do you expect for 37 mil?
I’m going to watch the love story and to feel part of that love story. Its why I love the books and it looks like they succeeded with that in the movie. Right on.
Thanks so much Sgundell!!! I just literally heard of all this Twilight madness three weeks ago! I am already through my third time of reading the entire series!! I love it. Thanks so much for your review it was amazing and you did a wonderful job of giving some good information, yet not too much. Can’t wait to see the movie Friday!!!
I saw it at an advance screening too! I don’t think I was as satisfied with it as you were though. I did like it! I agree that they moved quickly threw Edward and Bella’s relationship and I think that bothered me the most. I didn’t really feel their love until the end. But that’s just me. Like I said I liked it and I am seeing it again at the midnight showing. I am hoping I will enjoy it more the 2nd time around!
Awesome review! It’s so refreshing to hear a fans point of view as opposed to the too critical movie critics with their fancy pens and paper ready to burst everyone’s bubble. I am such a huge fan, even my 2 and 4 year old know about the Twilight vampires, haha. I can’t wait to see the movie and after reading your review I’m even more anxious to get out there and see it. Movies are never exactly like the books so as long as it carries the heart of the book with it, I can deal with some scene changes. It’s only to be expected when you are taking 500 VERY descriptive pages and squashing it into 2 hours on screen, hoping to God your actors can portray like 5 pages of those descriptions and emotions in a few seconds. I don’t know why but I love that “Lion and the Lamb” part of the book. I was so happy to hear from you that they kept it in there. Thanks for the review and for making me even more excited and determined to see the movie over and over and over again!
the song is called supermassive black hole, not supernatural black hole. just thought id let you know!
Great review! I’m so glad you said about the “lion and lamb” line being in there; I was afraid it wouldn’t. That, and that you greatly approve of the glittering effect. That definitely relives some of the anxiety I was having about the movie haha. I’m really excited to see it! 36 hour exactly to go!! [:
Thanks SO much for the great feedback, but I do have a few questions . . . .
How is the scene in Port Angeles? I’ve been DYING for Edward’s rescue!
Is there any Edward/Jacob rivalry? I, personally, have always been a Team Edward
Thanks again for the review! I’m so anxious to see the movie, I’ve been bouncing around in my classes all day! (Ask my friends, I drive them insane. LOL)
Much love,
Gracy XD
swweeeeet. dudeee.
radical.
gnarly.
righteous.
saw it last night in Salt Lake City. you lied. this movie sucked so bad! I’ve seen better episodes of the CW’s awful show Supernatural. That’s all this felt like. A crap teen show.
And how could you find that baseball scene amusing? That was the corniest thing I’d seen since The Happening. They have to play during storms so people don’t hear them breaking the sound barrier with each swing? Come on. So freaking lame.
It was so bad that, without having read the books, I can tell you exactly where the story will go. In the next movie they’ll have to fight that blonde vampire’s girlfriend – she’ll likely bring a much bigger posse. In the third one, they’ll have to fight the indians/werewolves. And in the fourth one, Bella will get hit by a car or something, almost die, and Edward will have to face the moral decision of letting her die or turning her into a vampire. I guarantee it. There is nothing subtle about this storytelling. Meyers is a hack.
By the way. A movie is really boring if you don’t have the bad guys come into it until 30 minutes before it ends.
And who in the world hired this director? It felt like some community college film student’s directorial debut. downright awful.
stop acting like you like it. if you had any senses at all, you’d repeat visit Bond instead of seeing this crap.
[...] here to read [...]
I saw the advance screening too, and I think you did a good job with this review. <33
In my opinion I though it went fast too.
AWESOME MOVIE!
You don’t know how I love these reviews, it’s like soothing my excitement ’till I get to see the movie. Unfortunatly they postponed it to January 1 in my country…
Oops, I clicked on submit… anyway… I really am a movie viewer too, so I don’t expect perfection and everything in there, I’m a HP fan so I know what to expect from an adaption.. and it leaves me very happy that they nailed it, that they could put lines such as “Lion+Lamb” and make it perfect… besides I’m really waiting to see all of Pattinson’s work, everything I’ve seen so far has portrayed Edward so beautifully that… it’s him I can’t wait to see… really, the books should be name EDWARD and not TWILIGHT, personally I think it’s him that brings all the magic to the story, and is Bella’s ordinary life that makes us all think that such a thing could happen to all of us…
I just want to know where the Muse song is located. Im hoping it’ll be in the cafeteria scene when the all come in… So please let me know I don’t think I can wait till tomorrow, lol.
omg im in england and it comes out december 19th here , premieres december 3rd-my 16th birthday, and im not one who gets all pissy about spoilers i NEED to know how it ends, eek im a lil worried about the voice over it best not be told past tense
[...] -Ademas nos avisa que Novel Novice tiene una breve descripción de la película para leerla clic aquí. [...]
merci for the normal person’s review.
after an insane week of twilightis, i am hoping that summit blows away the competition with huge receipts…
and i will be in line for the midnight showing with friends.
everyone bought a shirt (vampire solidarity) but i forgot so i must run…making a shirt and hot glueing plastic forks all over it…
You’re review. Well, it gave me chills. I’m so giddy right now. I want to run out and see it. Sadly, it’s not out for two more days. But it made me, want to see the movie, but like, ten times the feeling I’ve had. I’ve been looking forward to this movie since I read the first book about two months ago. BUT, everything you noted and the spoilers you gave away just made me that more giddy and excited to see it.
I’m sending this page to my best friend who is also as equally obsessed with Twilight as I am.
Good job. And thanks for such an honest review.

Ok I am so happy to read the review for this movie. I even appreciate the other person’s reveiw of the movie who just gave it a very negative review. I do have some questions to ask though. Were all the music from the soundtrack in the movie, if so where do they put in “Never Think”? A lot of people think it was great for this movie but by listening to the lyrics it always just seem like it would have fit well in New Moon. And someone else asked this question as well, on Bella’s Lullaby is it Rob playing the music without the extra instruments or is it Carter’s version? Do they show the scene where Bella almost passes out in Biology and Mike is trying to take her into the nurses office? I loved reading that part in the book and just hope they put that scene in the movie. you can email me if you don’t want to spoile it for any one else. AngelYve83@gmail.com
Thanks!
Thanks for the level headed review <3
I can’t wait to see it and judge for myself as well how much i like or dislike it…it’ll be pretty hard for me to dislike it in all honesty…I’ll be going to a midnight showing at the arc light theater and thank goodness for Hollywood theaters and assigned seating =D
I saw the Movie as well last night and I loved some song I was not sure how it well but once I saw it I they all fit well.
I loved were Rob songs were I was like wow. And the ending did leave you wanting for more I agree with almost everything you said it was great its stay as close to the as it could. So thanks for this review it was a great.

I also was fortunate to see the movie early. We saw it Monday night at the world premiere in Westwood. You did an awesome job at your review…it actually gave me butterflies and made me remember scenes I had forgotten about. I can not wait to see it again, I agree with your review 110%…though there were some cheesy parts with the special effects, everything else was AMAZING!
thanks for this!
I loved your review and I liked how you didn’t give too much away =)
<333
That was a great review.
You are so lucky, I’m dying to see this movie!!
That’s funny, I’ve always saw Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black. Well him and Steven Strait. But I was happy that Taylor was cast and knew he was capable of pulling it off. I’m totally a TEAM JACOB MEMBER. After reading your review, I’m happy to know that he does and now it’s just made me more excited to see the movie. I can’t wait for NEW MOON to see Taylor’s bubbly personality turn into a bad boy feel.
Thank you so much!!
Hello =]
Thank you for posting such a great review.
I live in London and I have to wait till december 18 to watch Twilight
as I read your review I have completely lost my patience I been waiting since spring
But I have to wait-I can do it !
I am one of those people who dont have views on anything and will take the first opinion they hear from someone else… seriously I cant help it and I really appreciate reading your view!!!
Oh I was exactly thinking the same of Taylor Lautner playing the part of Jacob Black I was a bit worried but after reading your review I can tell he did a great job.
I am glad the film did justice for the book.
Please reply to this question what scene played the song – Eyes on fire- Blue Foundation
I really love that song and I would love to know!!
Thanks once again
Hania
One question. One of my favorite songs on the soundtrack is “Eyes On Fire,” and I just want to know what part of the movie it’s in before I go see it.
Anyway, I was so worried about the movie being horrible. November 21st is my BIRTHDAY, so I was terrified that the best birthday ever was going to turn into the worst. You’ve eased my worries.
And thanks for the advice for people going to see the movie.
I’m very worried the some crazy person will start throwing popcorn at the screen or something. Hopefully they’ll read this, and they won’t! xD
omg! i want 2 see this movie sooo bad!
OME! Thanx so much for the review! By what you’ve told us, I think the movie is going to be great. I truly can’t believe my friends are still whining about how it’s going to be different from the book. It’s a movie for goodness sake! But I do love the review! I loved the spoilers! Im really relieved that they had the sparkles! I was questioning if they were going to have it for a second! LOL! Can’t wait for the movie! (Sadly, I have to watch it on Friday at 6:45. I want to watch it at midnight!!!)
I’m so glad you reviewed! I’m so excited to go see it Friday morning, I’m giddy about it! I hope I’ll be as satisifed as you were. Like someone else I’m hoping that Jazz has more lines than just 2! He is my all time favorite…I love him more than I love Edward -hides- He and Alice are just perfect for each other, so I hope they got more lines! I was reading comments and one really made me angry…don’t diss the book through the movie. So many people are in love with this series and he just completely dissed it…I got so angry when I read about what he thought about the baseball seen that I yelled out loud and made my roommate look at me, wondering what was going on. I think vampire baseball is amazing and I’m sure others agree. Just thinking about it gives me chills, it must be amazing to watch! These people that are so strong that their batting sounds like thunder?! Wows, I love it!
Hey, thats koo, how u got 2 c it early! LUCKY!
I just have a few questions, BTW i dont mind if im spoiled or anything so dont be afraid to REALLY tell me lol.
So where does the Muse song come in?
Also, at what part does the Spotlight (Twilight Mix) come in?
And how was the field trip scene?

I read this review from Variety and Chicago Tribune. Both of them said something about the special effects being not so special. But Chicago Tribune gave it a good rating so far. They also mentioned that its really true to the book. I guess all twilighters are expecting somethng like that anyway. And besides, can we really expect Twiligth to have special effect like Star wars if the film’s budget is only 37M?
that was a great review. i Like fan reviews much better then actual movie-review-people’s reviews. ha
and i LOVE that you mentioned how you love charlie cause omg i have such a HUGE soft spot for him.i dont kno what it is.Maybe the awkwardness between him and bella in the beginning reminds me of me and my dad (who i have a huge soft spot for also) but i just love charlie and i HATE reading that scene in twilight when bella leaves it ligit breaks my heart expecially when bella says he’ll never forgive her and edward kinda makes a face ahhh heartbreaking!
now there was a question i wanted to ask but now i cant think of it haha..damn..ok i’ll come back later if i remember
Let me just say, this must be the best-written fan review I’ve come across so far. It’s not too spoilery, but we get an idea of how the movie really is, and the comments are done in an objective manner. The thoughts are also well organized. Good job!
Can’t wait to see it! (It’s showing here on the 26th, so it’ll be a few more days… gah.)

wow that took me a long time. I know. I dont have a life.
Thanks for the review! I really enjoyed reading it. I have a question for you that might sound stupid — were people screaming a lot during the movie? I’m so terrified that I won’t be able to hear the dialogue! LOL sorry for the dumb question and thanks in advance.
OMG,
This Movies Sounds Amazing and The fact that It is Voiced over makes it seem even more like twilight because of Bella’s Perspective….Your Review was just about the best thing I’ve Read since The Twilight Saga Ended in August!!!!!!
A Big Standing Ovation To You!!!!!!!!!!!
I just wanted to let you know that your review was very well written and I am more hype now than before to see the movie this Friday. I was starting to think that the movie might not turn out to be as good as it is hyped up to be, but after reading your review, I am reassured that I will not be dissapointed. Thanks for the feedback!
i was wondering if you could e-mail me and tell me on what note they leave the movie in??? prom scene???? please e-mail mee. im gonna see it tommorrow but i cant wait!!!!
the movie will not come here in the philippines until november 26…
as i read your post…
it makes me so frustrated
as what have you just said,
me either didn’t see lautner as jacob
i think there’s something with him that didn’t
collide in jacob’s character.
you also mentioned about the song
i also felt what you have felt for the first time
especially about the supermassive blackhole
i think the tune wasn’t appropriate for the film,
but i think i should really need to see the film first.
and bella’s lullaby,
i love it for the first time i hear it
i love spoiler so i watch the 8 minute clip from you tube
and from that i must admit…
i love it so much
hey,
does never think is also included in the film?
i totally wanna see edward cullen shine under the sun
robert(one of people mag sexiest man alive)
you rock!!!!
Jec_10
aahh!!!!!!!!!!
Just one question
Is the Heroin Qoute in it????

i loved your review

DDD
anyhow, yeah i agree with you about the special “effects”
in alot of clips/tv spots you see Edward running.. and its so crappy. really really cheesy.
or even when he’s jumping from tree to tree i was like ‘WHAA?’ .
but i know they had a low budget so they had to make do with what they had y’knw?
i think that many twilighters won’t like this movie, because some dont make the connection that its JUST the adaptation and they need to single it out from the books (although Rob has seriously become my Edward while im reading
but anyways, this was great
i can’t wait for it to come on DVD
I just want to thank you for such a great review. For someone who does not do this for a living, it was very professional and easy to read. I can’t wait to see the movie!!
Thank you for the great review. I will definately be going to see the movie this weekend. Your review was written MUCH better than the Pro’s. Keep up the great writing.
I can’t help it!! You. I. You. He. AAAAAARRRRRUUUUGGGGHHH!!!!!! I am SOOOO UBER JEALOUS!!!!!!
Curse you, zero-hour orchestra class!!! Why must you tear me away from Edward, and all his beauty???? WHY????!!!!
*grins* Okay, done ranting!!
Ummmm….. er… OK, to be honest, I can’t wait anymore!! I wish today was Friday, so I can see the movie and marvel at Edward’s beauty.
I SOOOOO wish I was you; I’d have seen the movie, and I’d be forever thinking of Edward. However, I saw Wicked, so I ave all the songs there stuk in my head!!
I’m just like you; I was an RPattz fan from the start. The moment I found out, I went dancing around the computer pod on the third floor, mentally screaming at the top of my mental lungs!!! Ever since, I’ve been counting down the days to this moment!!!
Robert, je’taime!!! Je’taime parce que tu est tres beau, et tu est enchante!!!
I’d ask him to marry me, but I’m keeping my options open. Je regrette!!!
Anyway…CAN’T WAIT!!!!!!!
Thanks for your honest review of the movie. I enjoyed reading it and not just from your perspective. Since you included your friends opinions also in it. It will be very hard to top the book but I am going to try and keep an open mind while watching it this weekend; and I’m sure anyways that I will no doubt love it. If for no other reason than because I’ll get to see Edward come to life.
so I, too, saw the film early, last night. And your review Is spot on. I personally felt the movie rushed a little in pieces but after reflecting on it some, I can see how expert they were in generating a script that included nearly all the important dialog of their relationship but in such cut time. The music, having been listening to it daily for the past 3 weeks, was so perfectly woven into the story; that was one of the best aspects to me. I think it’s important that fans go into it open-mindedly because it isn’t a big blockbuster production but the heart IS there. Edward & Bella are there. You dont have to look hard, and it isnt flawless but it is the quaint honest beautiful personal narrative that we praise Stephenie for giving us and that we fell in love with. Here’s to a great opening weekend and the dawn of a New Moon.
joe blow:
i have not seen the movie nor do i have very high hopes for it, but that is not what happens in the rest of the books. in new moon edward leaves bella and she nearly falls in love with jacob. in eclipse the cullens and the wolves work together to kill victoria. and in breaking dawn bella marries edward and gets pregant with a half vampire baby. just thought i would clear that up because you got it wrong
OME! I loved your rating, and thank-you so much for taking the time to write that! (From the looks of it, it must have taken you an awful long time!) But I plan to see the movie tomorrow afternoon and I have already had my tickets for pratically EVER and because of this review, I probably will have a better time while experiencing the movie for the first time. But thx again!
*So Jealous*
p.s. Jessa- nice smiley face! ☻
As much as I love Twilight it pains me say that the two stars it has be getting is being VERY generous . I wanted to love it so much but I found it so bad at times that I couldn’t even watch =(
I know everyone has different taste…….hopefully I will like it more the second time around. At the end no one clapped in my theater….everyone kinda just sat there like WTF did we just see and the girl behind me blurted out “this sucks”.
A couple a row behind me actually got up and left in the middle. I just don’t know what to say…….it hurts me so much to say all of this because I love the books and Rob and Kristen. I just came out feeling very underwhlemed. Only plus to the movie is Rob’s hottnes.
I don’t mean to hate on the movie I just expeced so much, I waited 3 hours in line to see it and now I kinda wish I didn’t.
P.S to Summit…..please please get someone else to direct New Moon!!!
Enjoyed the review. You reviewed it exactly how I did to my friends and family.
Everyone here is complaining about the wait, but I have to wait until it comes out on DVD to see it!
I live in a small town in Alaska on the Aleutian Peninsula, so if I wanted to see the movie, I’d have to pay for a round trip to Anchorage, which is about $1000! And, the town that I live in is basically cut off from the rest of the world, you can’t even drive to another town, you have to fly, or take a hovercraft.
I’m definitely in love with everything Twilight, and I wish I was as lucky as all of you are to see it on it’s release date…
Oh! I forgot my question!!!!
Is there anything you can tell me about the movie that would make it absolutely worth the wait?

I read your review before watching the movie and then again after watching the movie last night, and I must say you captured EXACTLY what I felt after watching it. Rob and Kristen really nailed the tension in their building relationship, and the chemistry between the two of them made my head spin. Especially the kiss scene… so good! They did an excellent job in portraying the main plot points, and the voiceover actually added a lot to the movie, including moving the story along. I do wish that some of the other characters were fleshed out a bit more, but I understand that with the time constraints, the movie would be like five hours along. Plus sometimes I think the pacing was a little fast or it didn’t bridge the gaps as well as they could have, but all in all, a beyond stellar job. Plus, I could actually hear what was going on because thankfully, people refrained from screaming through most of the movie. And if I could have, I would have bought another ticket and gone straight back in to watch it again.
That was a great review. I only need to say that I felt exactly the same way. I’ve now seen twilight 5 times and it only gets better each time. The first time I saw it at the midnight showing and I had a hard time not comparing what I was seeing with the book or wondering how they were going to handle certain scenes.
The 2nd time I took my husband to an earlier show on Fri and (amazing) he loved it. I also enjoyed it more and was able to just sit back and enjoy it. My husband now wants to read the book. The third time was a later show Fri for girls night out and I also took my 14 yr daughter. I saw it with my younger daughter monday and my husband wanted to see it again, so we went again tuesday. And I still want to see it again.
I think it was the truest adaption from book to screen since LOTR. It stayed true to the characters and to heart of the story. I can’t wait for new moon and I hope with a bigger budget they will be able to do more and flesh out the stories more. Thanks for the great review.
